Scholarship and Remote Paid Summer Internship with the Foundation for a Better Economy

We are a nonprofit whose mission is to guide economic solutions for the modern economy. The foundation is inviting college seniors to write a thesis on the economy for a chance to win a $500 scholarship. In addition, our scholars have the opportunity for a paid internship for the summer of 2019 with the foundation. Some of the dialogue we engage in discusses funding a universal basic income through a payments tax and reforming the banking system. We are creating an economy that works for all of us, and we’d love to support research that drives this change. We look forward to hearing from you.

Eligibility

This scholarship is designed to support undergraduate seniors in their capstone or thesis projects. Students should submit their thesis proposal as an application the semester prior to the semester when they will write their thesis. The capstone or thesis project should produce substantial research and be supervised by university faculty.

The following fields are suitable for this scholarship: economics, political science, business, accounting, finance, health administration/policy, public policy, philosophy. If your field was not listed but you feel qualified for this scholarship, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

The top 5 theses from this pool of applicants will receive a scholarship of $500 upon completion. Those students whose proposals are selected for the scholarship will also be eligible for a paid summer internship.

Application

As an application, students should submit their proposals for their senior thesis that relates to one of the following topics: universal basic income, taxing financial transactions/ issues in the current tax system, government-financed college or retirement, de-privatizing banks, deletion and creation of money, the function of interest/ eliminating interest, impact of debt/ loans on the economy. This is not an exhaustive list, and any topic discussed on our website would be a suitable subject, but proposals that take an interdisciplinary approach will be strongly favored. Use this free PDF download of our book guide your research question.

The proposal should include the following: title, adviser name, central theme/ research question, list of major tasks to be completed and timeline, list of 3-4 potential sources (please use an established citation format). Proposal should be around 300-600 words, but if you’ve already completed a proposal for your university that is outside this word count, feel free to submit this instead (ensuring that the aforementioned components are included)
